Most of us, if not all, have heard about Sea Moss one way or another. We think we can all agree that it is AMAZING! It is full of so many benefits that it would be hard pressed to name them all.
The reason for this page is to give a little bit more understanding to those of us that may not know some of the things that we are about mention when looking for Sea Moss. Since we all want the benefits from it, let’s look into how those benefits come from this plant.
First, we must look to see where our Sea Moss is coming from. We must evaluate the environment and the conditions that the plant has grew in. We must consider that whatever is in the environment, it is going to affect the plant somehow. When looking for Sea Moss, consider if there has ever been an oil spill anywhere close to where your Sea Moss comes from. This is the research that you must do to achieve what you’re looking for. This will bring us to the Second thing we look for.
The second thing we look for is to make sure the Sea Moss is not “farm raised”. What we would consider to be “farm raised” is when a few pieces of Sea Moss is inside of a metal container with water rocking back and forth to mimic the ocean/sea. This will allow the Sea Moss to “feel” as though it’s in its natural habitat. Thus, causing it to grow. Another form we would consider to be “farm raised” is when the Sea Moss is tied to a string that is out in the water (typically in the 3 to 5 feet in the sea) and the waves of the water rocking the Sea Moss back and forth allows it to grow. We’ve seen this process with our own eyes and there are reasons that we do not use that Sea Moss. Once again, this is NOT TO BASH ANY COMPANY OR ANY INDIVIDUAL!
If the nutrients of a plant come from the soil and the sun (photosynthesis), then this is where the nutrients come from that’s within Sea Moss. Sea Moss grows in shallow waters where there is sunlight. Most are anchored to the ocean floor, or on rocks that’s on the floor. If the Sea Moss is growing on a string, the proper amount of nutrients that we look for wouldn’t be in this.
If there is a crude oil spill and the Sea Moss is around, wouldn’t it jeopardize the integrity of the plant? Whether the Sea Moss is on the floor, or it’s floating on the top, we chose to stay away from those areas.
Last but not least, we check as best as we can to see if the region is spoken about having a lot of trash floating around in the area. This too we feel like can compromise the integrity of the plant.
What is Sea moss? Sea moss typically is a little-known marine vegetable full of many wonderful and beneficial properties. Due to its incredible density of nutrients, it could be easily classified as a superfood!
